Outdoor Tips : Lawns

Do not over water your lawn. Lawns typically need one-inch of water per week in the hottest part of the summer in the northwest. Water slow enough for the water to seep into the soil. Set a timer – a forgotten hose can waste a lot of water. Follow the watering calendar the District mails to all customers.

Water in the early morning or evening to avoid evaporation. Don’t water on windy days.

Minimize the amount of lawn you have by planting drought tolerant plants, native plants.

Make sure your irrigation system is working properly.

Cut the grass high during the growing season and frequently rather than short. It will retain water better and look greener.
