In the years since the construction of the original sewer trunk line, the stormwater from the many winter high flow storm events was eroding the soil and transporting it down the gulch to Puget Sound. Although this natural transport of the stream bed gravel and soils is considered very beneficial, what was hidden from view was that the larger stormwater flows were slowly scouring the protective soil cover from over the pipeline, and from the gulch sidewalls.
